A Florida running back prospect in the 2023 class announced on Tuesday that he would be visiting Iowa State later this year.

Manny Covey, a not-yet-rated prospect, will be in Ames on April 7 to tour the program’s facilities and get a feeling for it.

“I’ve been dreaming of this moment since I was six years old and now that it’s finally happening is a (dream come true),” Covey said.

Covey currently holds offers to both Syracuse and Cincinnati and will visit each of the pair of schools in March before coming to Iowa State.

He wants to get a feel for how everything runs in the program as far as player-coach relationships go.

“(I want to see) basically how the players and coaches interact with each other, how the meetings go and how practice goes – all of that type of stuff,” Covey said.

The visit to Ames will be just for Covey and his family, as opposed to the flock of prospects in town for the pair of basketball home games in January.

That had an effect on Covey.

“That was love when they said they just want me up there,” Covey said. “Coach (Nate Scheelhaase) said they had a junior day (recently), but I could come up in April and have it just be me.”

Iowa State, obviously, has a reputation with running backs, putting David Montgomery and soon Breece Hall into the NFL.

That attracted Covey, as it would any prospect at his position.

“I just know they’re going to feed that rock,” Covey said. “If they feed the rock and you get that job done – that’s something. That’s trust and I love that stuff.”
