After Ashley Joens went to the bench with two fouls just three minutes into the game on Saturday, Texas Tech proved that it could hang around with No. 13 Iowa State.

By the end of the third quarter, Iowa State proved it wouldn’t be a trap game. Joens returned to the court and by the end of the third, Iowa State had buried its opposition with a 20-5 run to close out the frame.

The 86-65 win over Texas Tech was the team’s fourth Big 12 road win of the year.

Emily Ryan led the team, scoring 20 points and collecting seven assists as well as three boards. Both her and Lexi Donarski, who finished with 19 points, played just under the full 40 minutes on the day.

Beatriz Jordao again showed she isn’t scared to mix it up in the paint, collecting 11 points, eight rebounds and four fouls on the day.

The team also saw Nyamer Diew have a 10-point first half, although she wasn’t able to score during the second half.

Nonetheless, that’s a positive first 20 minutes and the Cyclones didn’t need much more to beat a 2-7 Texas Tech team.

The win pushes Iowa State to 18-3 on the season, with a 7-2 Big 12 mark at the halfway point of conference play.

With each of its next two games being at Hilton Coliseum ahead of six days of rest between Oklahoma State and the trip to TCU, it’s shaping up to be a big week.

The Cyclones will take the floor next on Wednesday for a showdown with Kansas State and Ayoka Lee – the post player who set the NCAA WBB record for most points scored in a game last week. The game is scheduled for a 6:30 p.m. tipoff on ESPN+.
