Iowa State offensive lineman Joey Ramos announced on social media Saturday that he would enter the transfer portal with two years of eligibility left in his collegiate career.

Ramos appeared in all 13 of Iowa State’s games in 2021, primarily on special teams. He was listed on the depth chart as the backup center behind Colin Newell, but Trevor Downing started in his place in the Cheez-It Bowl and is expected to slide over to the position in 2022.

The Phoenix, Ariz. native chose Iowa State out of high school over UCLA, Oregon, Washington, Arizona and Arizona State.

In his message, Ramos thanked the fans as well as Coach Matt Campbell before embarking on the next step of his career.
