One of the top punting prospects in the nation’s 2022 recruiting class has chosen Iowa State.
Norwalk, Ohio native Tyler Perkins, the No. 2 punter in Kohl’s Kicking’s 2022 class rankings, committed to Iowa State on Wednesday in a statement released on his Twitter account.
Perkins is the Cyclones’ fifth commitment in the 2022 class and the first from the state of Ohio, Matt Campbell’s native state and one that has been great to Iowa State football in recent years producing stars such as Mike Rose, David Montgomery and Deshaunte Jones.
Perkins averaged 46 yards per punt as a junior in 2020 while earning first-team all-conference, first-team all-district and first-team all-state honors. He visited Iowa State this past weekend as part of the program’s return to hosting on-campus visitors for the first time since March 2020.
Iowa State’s 2022 recruiting class is currently considered the No. 50 class in the country and No. 6 class in the Big 12 by 247Sports. Stay tuned for more on this story.
