Racine St. Catherine’s bench watches on as Tyrese Hunter launches a three-pointer against Martin Luther during a game on December 11, 2020.
Iowa State signee Tyrese Hunter’s profile on the national scene continues to rise.
The 6-foot-1 point guard from Racine, Wis. jumped up 13 spots to No. 31 nationally in the latest ranking of the 2021 class released by Rivals on Friday. That rise moves Hunter to No. 35 nationally in the 247Composite, which moves him past Lindell Wigginton to be Iowa State’s second-highest rated recruit in the Internet rankings era.
Hunter made waves last weekend at the Iverson Classic, which featured some of the nation’s top players, including consensus No. 1 overall player in the class Chet Holmgren, by winning the Team Loyalty MVP award after scoring 20 points in his team’s losing effort.
Friday’s news further solidifies the idea Hunter could have one of the biggest immediate impacts of any freshman in the country next season.
The jump also makes Hunter the second-highest rated player to sign with a Big 12 school in this cycle, behind only Baylor signee Kendall Brown, who is considered the No. 8 player in the class by Rivals.
