Monte Morris has always been secure with the basketball, but on Monday the former Cyclone star secured the bag.
Morris has signed a three-year extension worth $27 million with the Denver Nuggets, keeping him with the team that drafted him 51st overall in 2017 through 2023-24, as first reported by ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski.
Iowa State’s all-time leader in assists and steals has averaged 9.6 points and 3.5 assists per game while appearing in 155 contests for the Nuggets over the last two seasons. The Flint, Mich. native would have been a highly sought after unrestricted free agent after the 2020-21 season if not for the extension.
The new contract terms, which will kick in for the 2021-22 season, will give Morris a significant boost in pay, jumping more than $7 million per year from the $1.6 million he’s set to earn this season.
The Nuggets, who are coming off of an appearance in the Western Conference Finals last season, will tip-off their new year on Dec. 23 when they square off with the Sacramento Kings and another former Cyclone in rookie guard Tyrese Haliburton.
