Iowa State men’s basketball’s only signee in the 2021 early signing period received a sizable ratings bump on Wednesday.

Tyrese Hunter, the four-star point guard from Racine, Wis., jumped 21 spots to No. 35 in the 247Sports class of 2021 rankings. The 6-foot-1, 175-pound St. Catherine’s product moved up to No. 39 in the 247Composite, which averages a prospect’s rating across all recruiting services.

Coming in at No. 35 makes Hunter one of the nation’s highest-rated four-star prospects as the cut off for receiving a fifth star currently sits at No. 23 (a distinction which oddly enough belongs to South Carolina guard Bryce McGowens, who signed with Nebraska and former Iowa State star/head coach Fred Hoiberg last month).

He is also now the No. 5 point guard prospect in the country and No. 2 player in Wisconsin.

Hunter leads a Racine St. Catherine’s team that is considered the preseason No. 1 team in Wisconsin’s Class D3 by Wisconsin Sports Network and went 25-0 last season before the COVID-19 pandemic ended the school’s season prior to the sectional final. Hunter was named the Player of the Year in the Metro Classic Conference as a junior and has scored 1,155 points, grabbed 359 rebounds, dished out 232 assists and snagged 171 steals during his first three prep seasons.

Racine St. Catherine’s will open their season next Tuesday when they travel to Racine Lutheran.
