The Big Ten has voted to postpone its 2020 fall football season and will explore the option of playing in spring 2021, the league announced on Tuesday. The Pac-12 reportedly has come to the same conclusion, according to multiple reports and will be made official in a media teleconference this afternoon at 3:30 central.

These are the first two Power 5 dominoes to fall after the MAC and Mountain West were the first two leagues to make the move on Saturday and Monday, respectively.

Meanwhile, the SEC and ACC have reaffirmed their intent to play the 2020 season this fall while the Big 12 remains somewhat in limbo at this time.

As of now, 53 of the 130 FBS programs have been impacted by the decisions.

Regardless of the announcement, things could remain interesting in the following days after several schools, including Nebraska and Ohio State, made clear their desire to play and willingness to explore all options in order to do so.

That would be a sticky situation for any school though considering their tie-in to the Big Ten’s Grant of Rights.

Stay tuned for CF for more.

Note: This post was updated at 3:00 p.m. central time to reflect the Big Ten’s official announcement and the Pac-12’s impending announcement.

Rather than focus on the content of this post, I will comment on its style. I like how Jared is able to start a thread with a header graphic (or whatever you call it) that fits the topic. First time I’ve seen that feature. I assume it is part of the website facelift. Nice. Can I use my own header graphic when I start a thread?

It only does that because I can start threads automatically through the backend of our website now when I post an article. Eliminated the step of having to take the link and start a thread myself.

  2. People need to slow their boats in both directions.

1 – BigXII is largely just playing a longer wait and see approach. From what I’ve heard there is a pretty even split on if football should be played and the consensus was to wait until early September to see how things are trending. There is going to be more talk of possible bubbles and enhanced monitoring but they are relying on some outside medical professionals as well.

2 – It will be popular talk for a while but I’ve been told there is absolutely no chance of Big Ten teams playing this faI’ll unless they decide to permanently leave the league. Nebraska will make a stink but it’s all bluster.

3 – I’d put odds on Big XII kicking off on Sept 26th at 20%. More than anything, they want to show that they’ve done everything they could to make it possible and only time will tell if it really is.
