RECRUITING: Cyclones in the top-six for in-state four-star TJ Bollers

Iowa State is among the final six for one of the state’s top 2021 football players.

TJ Bollers, the son of former Iowa fullback Trevor Bollers, listed the Cyclones in his top-six along with Wisconsin, Northwestern, Nebraska, Alabama and Cal on Tuesday. Bollers is considered the No. 2 player in the state of Iowa by 247Composite.

Iowa State has been in the running for Bollers’ skills at the collegiate level for more than two years as Matt Campbell’s staff was the first to offer the four-star recruit a scholarship in Jan. 2018. He has since taken at least five unofficial visits to Ames and is scheduled for an official visit to Iowa State beginning on June 26, assuming recruiting practices have returned to normal by that point depending on the status of the coronavirus pandemic.

Bollers, 6-foot-3, 240-pounds, currently holds 18 scholarship offers from programs all over the country after his recruiting profile exploded in the last year. He is considered the No. 140 player in the 2021 class overall and the No. 7 weak-side defensive end in the class by 247Composite.

As it stands now, and if he ultimately chooses Iowa State, Bollers would be the second-highest rated recruit to join the program in the recruiting service era, which dates back to the early 2000s.

Iowa State currently holds five commitments in its 2021 class, including in-state offensive linemen Jim Bonifas (Dubuque) and Dodge Sauser (Grinnell). The class is rated as the No. 41 class nationally and the No. 7 class in the Big 12.
