WBB: Ashley Joens named honorable mention AP All-American

The following is a press release from the Iowa State Athletics Department

AMES, Iowa – Iowa State women’s basketball sophomore Ashley Joens earned honorable mention All-America honors by the Associated Press on Thursday.

Joens put together one of the best single seasons in Iowa State history. She finished fifth in school history with 594 points, while her 20.5 points per game was second behind 2019 Big 12 Player of the Year and second-team AP All-American Bridget Carleton. Joens also crashed the boards, averaging 10.9 rebounds per game, which is second in school history and her 317 rebounds on the year stands third all-time.

The Iowa City, Iowa native is the only player in the nation to average over 20.0 points and 10.0 rebounds on the season. She is one of only 11 guards and guard/forwards to accomplish the feat since 1999-00.

Joens earned her fair share of recognition on the season, as she was one of only three unanimous selections to the All-Big 12 First Team. She also was recognized on six separate occasions as the Big 12 Player of the Week, while no other Big 12 Player earned more than two. She also was recognized as the espnW National Player of the Week.

Joens is the 10th Cyclone to earn honorable mention All-America honors and the first sophomore.
