Tyrese Haliburton’s sophomore season may have ended prematurely, but it still garnered accolades.
The Oshkosh, Wis. native was named second-team All-Big 12 by the league’s coaches, according to a league press release on Sunday. Haliburton averaged 15.2 points, 6.5 assists, 5.9 rebounds and 2.5 steals while playing in 22 games for the Cyclones this season before suffering a year-ending wrist injury during the program’s win over Kansas State in early February.
Haliburton, who is widely regarded as a potential lottery pick in June’s NBA Draft, was joined on the second-team by Baylor’s Macio Teague and Freddie Gillespie plus Texas Tech’s Jahmi’us Ramsey and West Virginia’s Oscar Tshibwe. Kansas senior Udoka Azubuike was named the league’s player of the year while Baylor’s Scott Drew was honored as coach of the year.
Sophomore guard Rasir Bolton was the only other Cyclone represented in the Big 12 awards as he was named honorable mention All-Big 12. The former Penn State transfer is averaging 14.7 points, 3.4 rebounds and 2.8 assists per game during his first season in Ames.
Iowa State will open play at the Big 12 Tournament on Wednesday when they take on Oklahoma State in the eight-seed versus nine-seed matchup at the Sprint Center.
