For the first time in school history, the Iowa State women’s basketball program has a McDonald’s All-American.

The school announced on Thursday afternoon that incoming recruit Lexi Donarski has been named to play in the 2020 McDonald’s All-American game.

Despite the storied success that the program has sustained under head coach Bill Fennelly over the past 25 seasons, he had never had a recruit named to a Mcdonald’s Game roster.

The latest honor is just another wrinkle added to an already historic recruiting class. It’s rated the highest in Iowa State history as the No. 7 class in all of college basketball.

Donarski is ranked as the No. 12 overall prospect in the country by ESPN.

“What a great honor for Lexi and her family,” head coach Bill Fennelly said in a release. “The McDonald’s All-American game has become one of the biggest showcases for the best seniors in the nation. For Lexi to be among that group is a dream come true and validates the hard work that she has put in over the years.”

Donarski – a 5-foot-10 guard from La Crosse, Wisconsin native – hails from the same area as former Cyclone sharpshooter and current Raptors player Matt Thomas.

The All-American game is scheduled for April 1 in Houston and will be televised by either ESPN or ESPN2. Tip-off for the game is still to be determined.
