Iowa State is represented on the Pro Football Focus All-American team for the third straight season.
Sophomore tight end Charlie Kolar earned second-team honors on the analytics website’s All-American team announced Sunday evening. He joins former Cyclones David Montgomery (twice) and Brian Peavy to be featured on the team in the last three years.
Kolar’s 675 receiving yards ranked as the fourth-most amongst FBS tight ends during the regular season while his seven touchdown receptions tied for third-most and 48 receptions were tied for seventh. His receiving yards total was a new school record by a tight end and his reception number comes in as the second-most by a tight end in school history.
The Norman, Okla. native’s record-breaking season propelled him to the first All-American honor for an Iowa State tight end since E.J. Bibbs in 2014. Kolar is the Cyclones’ 40th All-American in program history.
This is surely the first of many honors to come for Kolar over the next several days and weeks, including some sort of All-Big 12 recognition which will be announced this week.
