Georges Niang fires back at trash talk attempt from Hawkeyes’ Jordan Bohannon

Cy-Hawk week always brings out the “best” in people, no matter if it’s leading up to the annual football or basketball game. As current Iowa guard Jordan Bohannon proved on Wednesday night, he’s no exception.

“J-Bo”, who recently admitted the Hawkeyes have had tonight’s game circled on their calendar for two years now, took to social media 24 hours ahead of tip-off to rile up the masses.

The post naturally sparked a lot of bickering between the Cyclone and Hawkeye fan bases, which was undoubtedly Bohannon’s intention from the beginning. However, things got a little more serious when the one true Cy-Hawk trash talk legend himself, Georges Niang, stepped up to the keyboard to respond to Bohannon.

Though the Hawkeyes won last year’s game 98-84 in Carver-Hawkeye Arena, Niang’s response holds some weight because Iowa hasn’t won in Hilton Coliseum since a one-point NIT win in 2003. To add some perspective, Bohannon was just 5 years old when that game took place, 50 Cent’s “In Da Club” was in the midst of a nine-week run as the No. 1 song in the United States, and social media sites Facebook, Twitter, and MySpace didn’t even exist yet.

Upon seeing Niang chime in, Bohannon decided to fire back.

We’ll have to wait until after the game to find out what the “present” is, or if Bohannon will end up revealing it at all if the Cyclones extend their home winning streak. Nevertheless, Niang didn’t take long to reply once again.

Garza, of course, referring to post player Luka Garza, who has had a breakout season for the Hawkeyes averaging 22.5 points and 9.8 rebounds a game, including a 44-point outing against Michigan last week in a game Iowa lost 103-91.

Bohannon closed out the interaction by agreeing with Niang.

Glad to have that sorted out.

One thing is for sure… Bohannon has helped ensure Hilton Coliseum will be extra raucous and angry tonight, even on top of the regular Cy-Hawk vitriol. The boos will rain down on the visiting team and the crowd will explode with every ISU basket.

Can’t wait to see everyone there!
