It is set to be a relatively quiet week on the recruiting front for Iowa State football with currently only one notable official visitor set to be Ames as the Cyclones will host Hutchinson C.C. defensive tackle Latrell Bankston this weekend.
Bankston, a 6-foot-1, 284-pound Woodstock, Ga. native, is considered the No. 49 junior college player in the country and No. 3 defensive tackle by 247Composite. He also holds offers from Kansas State, Oregon State, Arizona, Boise State and a handful of other FBS programs.
He was just named the KJCCC defensive player of the week after recording seven tackles, five of them for a loss, and four sacks in No. 1 Hutchinson’s win over Fort Scott. Bankston has recorded seven sacks through the Dragons’ first four games.
Defensive tackle is one of the positions of need for Iowa State in the 2020 recruiting cycle with both Ray Lima and Jamahl Johnson set to graduate after this year. While there are some talented youngsters who will still be in the program, Bankston presents an interesting option as an immediate stop-gap next season to bridge the gap until guys like Isaiah Lee and co. are prepared to step into major roles.
