Tuesday weekly press conferences were back in action this afternoon following the bye week as Matt Campbell and his team prep for the Iowa Hawkeyes.

Campbell touched on a multitude of things during his time at the mic on Tuesday including the health of offensive lineman, Colin Newell, who was injured in the team’s season opener against Northern Iowa.

Another topic on the minds of the players was what Iowa State was going to do with the bye week in between its first and second games.

On one hand it may help Newell and also Braxton Lewis get themselves into the game on Saturday.

However, as Josh Knipfel said, those bye weeks can stop momentum and put a team in a rut.

If it seems like one of the biggest Cy-Hawk games of all time, that’s because it is.

College GameDay will be in the house on Saturday morning to go through the Week 3 slate in the sport and highlight Iowa State University.

Players aren’t focusing on that at all, though, according to quarterback Brock Purdy.

There were a few different times when players referenced keeping things ‘inside the walls’ referring to kind of keeping to themselves this week and focusing on things they can control.

For some, like Ray Lima, they didn’t even know what College GameDay was before it was announced that the Cyclones landed the premier CFB preview show.

No matter what, we’ll see a new chapter written in the rivalry in just a few days, which could mean we see a breakout performance or two on Saturday.

After all, Mike Rose impressed big time in his debut against the Hawks last year.

Iowa and Iowa State will face off at 3:00 p.m. CT on Saturday with the game being televised by Fox Sports 1.
