RECRUITING: Cyclones land three-star Illinois defensive tackle

Iowa State made another important addition to its 2020 recruiting class on Monday.

Gurnee, Ill. defensive tackle Willis Singleton announced his pledge to Matt Campbell’s program in a tweet on Monday evening. The 6-foot-1, 301-pound three-star prospect fills a major need for the class with several of its key defensive line contributors set to graduate following the 2019 season.

Singleton, who attends Warren Township High School, chose the Cyclones over offers from Cincinnati, Illinois, Louisville, Michigan State, Missouri, Washington State and a handful of other FBS programs. He is considered the No. 85 defensive tackle prospect in the country and No. 24 player in the state of Illinois by 247Composite.

Singleton’s commitment gives the Cyclones 16 pledges in their 2020 recruiting class that currently ranks as the No. 35 class in the country, according to 247. He is the second defensive line prospect in the class, joining Kansas City defensive end Johnny Wilson, and is the class’ first commitment out of Illinois.
