Royce White’s basketball career isn’t finished after all

A few months ago, former Cyclone Royce White announced that he was training to be an MMA fighter. The 16th overall pick in the 2012 NBA Draft also made a point to make it known that he was not retiring from basketball.

We had a somewhat significant Royce White sighting on Wednesday night.

White, who most recently had basketball success north of the border in Canada, was the first pick in the 2019 “Big 3” draft.

The Big 3 is entering its third season of play and was founded by the rapper Ice Cube. It has a national television deal with CBS Sports and features former pros that have had different levels of success in the NBA.

White’s team, “The Enemies,” consists of Lamar Odom, Gilbert Arenas, Perry Jones III, Craig Smith and Frank Robinson.

The No. 1 pick in the 2007 NBA Draft, Greg Oden, was notably selected seventh on Wednesday night. Former Kansas Jayhawk and two-time NBA champion Mario Chalmers was selected as well.

Chris Williams

Chris was hired as Cyclone Fanatic’s publisher in the fall of 2009. He is Iowa State football's postgame show host on the Cyclone Radio Network and can be heard daily from 4-7 on Des Moines' top-rated sports station, 1460 KXnO. Williams, a 2007 graduate of Iowa State’s Greenlee School of Journalism, is the former publisher of the old CycloneNation.com (Scout.com). He has also written for the Des Moines Register, the Ames Tribune, CycloneReport.com and is the former sports director at KMA Radio. When Williams isn’t working, you can usually find him doing something outdoors with his wife Ashley, daughter Camryn, and Golden Retriever Dierks. He enjoys golfing, boating, country music, the Minnesota Vikings, Atlanta Braves and is passionate about any and all motor sports so finding Williams at a local dirt track is very common.
