Minnesota safety Craig McDonald has announced his commitment to Iowa State. The three-star Minnehaha Academy product made his pledge public on Saturday following an unofficial visit to Ames.
McDonald, a native of Minneapolis, chose the Cyclones over offers from Iowa, Minnesota, Purdue, Wisconsin and Dartmouth. The 6-foot-2, 190-pound prospect is rated as the No. 688 player in the 2020 class overall, the No. 43 safety and No. 6 player in the state of Minnesota, according to 247Composite.
The commitment gives Iowa State four pledges in its 2020 recruiting class and the second from the state of Minnesota, joining three-star quarterback Aidan Bouman. The Cyclones’ class ranks as the No. 25 class in the country and No. 4 class in the Big 12 early on in the cycle.
