After weeks (if not months) of speculation, it all became official on Saturday. Fred Hoiberg is the next head of Nebraska basketball.
Media reports out of Lincoln are indicating that Nebraska will officially introduce him as the head coach on Tuesday.
According to Christopher Heady of the Omaha World Herald, Hoiberg will make $3.57 million a year, which will be the third highest salary in the Big Ten.
More news to note for Iowa State fans: Jeff Goodman is reporting that former Hoiberg assistant in Ames, Matt Abdelmassih, will be on staff.
Hoiberg coached at Iowa State from 2010-2015 where he led the Cyclones to a 115-56 (49-39) record, four NCAA Tournaments, a Sweet 16 and two Big 12 Tournament championships.
Hoiberg’s tenure as the head coach of the Chicago Bulls ended when he was fired in December.
