Iowa State’s women’s basketball team welcomed in another newly-signed class to its program during national signing day on Wednesday.

Head Coach Bill Fennelly and Co. managed to ink a top-100 nationally ranked prospect for the second year in a row, as Indianola’s Maggie McGraw officially signed her national letter of intent.

McGraw is a 5-foot-10 guard and a three-time first-team all-conference player out of Southeast Polk. She is ranked No. 45 in ESPN’s top-100.

“Maggie has Cardinal and Gold in her blood and we are excited to add her officially to the Cyclone women’s basketball family,” Fennelly said. “Maggie is a skilled offensive player that can play anywhere on the perimeter.  She is a great fit for Iowa State on and off the court.”

This is the second straight year Iowa State has signed the top recruit in Iowa. Ashley Joens – who led the Cyclones in scoring in their win over Auburn earlier this week – was the top prospect in Iowa last year.

While Fennelly stayed local for McGraw, the other player in the class is Gabby McBride, a native of Roanoke, Texas. McBride comes to Iowa State with an impressive list of accolades despite being ranked outside of ESPN’s top-100.

McBride earned spots on the all-district and Adidas All-American teams following her junior season.

“Gabby is a player who has a good upside on the court and will add great personality to our program as well,” Fennelly said. “She is athletic and physical around the rim and as we lose players in the post through graduation this was a position of need for our program.”

McBride averaged 8.5 points per game and 7.7 rebounds per game last season and is a four-year starter in high school.

Both players will have the opportunity to try and play as true freshman like Joens did for the Cyclones this year or redshirt for a season like Maddie Frederick and Morgan Kane chose to do.

Iowa State’s next game will be on Sunday at Hilton Coliseum against either No. 19 Marquette or No. 25 Miami in the preseason WNIT championship game. The game will tip off at 3:30 p.m. CT and will be televised on Cyclones.tv.
