Three-star quarterback Brock Purdy has committed to Iowa State. The 6-foot-1, 197-pound pro-style signal caller announced his pledge in a ceremony at his school on national signing day.
Purdy, rated as the No. 36 pro-style quarterback in the country, chose Iowa State over offers from Alabama, Texas A&M and a handful of other major college football programs. He has been the Cyclones’ top priority recruit since the beginning of the January recruiting period.
The Gilbert, Ariz. native picked up an offer from the Cyclones on Jan. 11 then was visited in-home by Iowa State head coach Matt Campbell several days later. He took an official visit to Ames the weekend of Jan. 16 before his recruitment blew up with the offers from the Crimson Tide and the Aggies.
Purdy enters an Iowa State quarterback room that also includes true freshman, and early enrollee, Re-al Mitchell, sophomore Zeb Noland and redshirt freshman Devon Moore. There is also the potential for returning starter Kyle Kempt‘s return to the program pending the NCAA’s decision on a sixth-year of eligibility.
Purdy, who is expected to sign with the Cyclones on Wednesday, is the 21st commit in Iowa State’s 2018 recruiting class that ranks among the best in school history.
