We are five days away from National Signing Day, 2018.  Here is your weekly recap on all things football recruiting.

THE LATEST:

*** The Cyclones picked up a commitment from WR Joseph Scates on Sunday.  Scates is the highest rated commit in the Matt Campbell era and the No. 54 wide receiver and No. 324 overall player in the ’18 class.  His commitment has moved the class ranking up seven spots to 50th.  Click here to read more about his commitment.

*** ISU lost a commit in the 2019 class as wide receiver Maurice Massey announced he was reopening his recruitment via Twitter.  Click here to read Jared’s article from Tuesday.

*** QB Brock Purdy is the primary target as signing day approaches.  Campbell had already used his one allowed visit for the current recruiting period on January 16th, but the rest of the staff went down to visit Purdy in Arizona on Thursday.  Purdy received an offer from Texas A&M on Thursday afternoon and will take his fifth and final official visit there this weekend.  He announced that he will choose his school at 11 a.m. on National Signing Day.  Purdy has ttaken officials to ISU, Alabama, UCF and Boise St.

*** After receiving offers from Mizzou and Nebraska last week, offensive lineman Bobby Lawrence has been offered an immediate scholarship and will no longer greyshirt at Iowa State. Campbell went to visit him on Wednesday as the Cyclones hope to hold on to the 6-foot-8, 300-pound commit out of St. Joseph, Mo.

*** Looking ahead, ISU handed out 28 known offers this past week for future classes.  All but five of those blessings were for the 2019 class.

VISITS:

*** ISU will have one official visitor this weekend, safety J.T. Ibe.  Ibe is a graduate transfer from Rice.  Campbell and assistant defensive backs coach D.K. McDonald visited Ibe on Monday.  Click here to read more about J.T.

*** Campbell and new assistant coach Nate Scheelhaase visited 2019 RB Jirehl Brock last Friday night in Illinois.  Brock is a top target at the running back position.

*** Campbell visited Bryce Benhart on Wednesday. The 2019 offensive tackle out of Minnesota has been a top target since ISU offered last May.

*** The staff will split up to visit defensive end Blake Peterson and linebacker Jack Campbell tonight. Peterson visited Minnesota last weekend, who has offered along with in-state schools South Dakota and South Dakota State.  Campbell, of Cedar Falls, holds offers from Iowa, Minnesota and UNI.  Both have visited Ames multiple times.

*** 2019 visitors this past Saturday included OG Marquise Simmons, OT Ira Henry, RB Rayquion Weston, DE/DT Willie Robinson Jr., CB Derrick “DJ” Miller and CB Isaiah Wright.  There is more info about these prospects in the 2019 Football Targets thread in the forums.

HIGH INTEREST:

*** After an offer back in November and a visit this past weekend, 2019 offensive guard Marquise Simmons has ISU as a top school.

*** Cornerback Tyler Nubin is also a new name for the 2019 class with high interest, receiving an offer from the Cyclones on Sunday.  Iowa State joined Minnesota, Illinois, and Purdue as teams that have offered in the past three weeks.

RATING BOOSTS (According to 247 Composite):

*** Carson Schleker, who committed to ISU last June, moved up 24 spots at the wide receiver position and 174 overall to crack the top 1200 players.
