WBB: Carleton named Cheryl Miller Award finalist

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – Iowa State junior guard Bridget Carleton was named a Cheryl Miller Award Top-10 Finalist, the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame and the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association announced today. Carleton was one of just 20 players in the nation to be named to the initial watch list, which recognizes the top small forwards in NCAA women’s basketball.

Carleton is averaging 18.7 points, 6.9 rebounds, 3.5 assists, 2.4 steals and 1.0 blocks in her junior campaign. She is the only power-5 player to lead her team in points, rebounds and assists. She has reached double figures in every game on the year and currently ranks 20^th in school history with 1,299 career points. She also currently ranks tied for 10^th in school history in blocked shots with 74 in her career. Most recently, Carleton earned national recognition for her 39-point, nine-rebound game as Iowa State earned a win at No. 19 Oklahoma State.

In addition to making waves in the Iowa State record books, Carleton is a member of the Canadian Senior Women’s National Team and competed over the summer with the team in the FIBA AmeriCup.

In March, five finalists will be presented to Ms. Miller and the Hall of Fame’s selection committee. Cyclone fans will also have the opportunity to vote for Carleton at www.hoophallawards.com.

The winner of the 2018 Cheryl Miller Small Forward Award will be announced during ESPN2’s telecast of the national semifinal games in the 2018 NCAA Women’s Final Four in Columbus, Ohio on Friday, March 30.
