Iowa State is attempting to bolster its two-deep at the safety positions heading into the second installment of National Signing Day for the 2018 class, which will occur next Wednesday.

Following  J.T. Ibe‘s visit from Matt Campbell on Monday, the Rice graduate transfer confirmed to Cyclone Fanatic he will take an official visit to Ames this weekend.

“They just continually said how I can come in and play and lead the team to a championship,” Ibe told Cyclone Fanatic‘s Jared Stansbury via text. “Just excited to see everything the school has to offer.”

Ibe, a 6-foot, 200-pound safety who has been at Rice for the last three years, logged 41 tackles as a junior last season for the Owls in eight games. Ibe was fifth on the team in tackles with 42 as a sophomore in 2016.

Ibe had originally planned to visit Georgia Tech this weekend but moved his visit up after Campbell’s visit. He has also been offered by Kansas, Colorado and Indiana.

Iowa State is looking to replace the departures of Kamari Cotton-Moya, Everett Edwards and Reggie Wilkerson at the safety positions from last year’s Liberty Bowl championship team that finished 8-5.
