Nick Weiler-Babb out at least a week with tendinitis

AMES — Last week, ISU point guard Nick Weiler-Babb shrugged when asked about his knee.

“It’s a 22-year-old knee,” he said.

This week, unfortunately, it’s a far less healthy one.

Cyclones coach Steve Prohm said Monday that Weiler-Ball will miss at least a week — and maybe two — because of what’s initially been diagnosed as tendinitis that was exacerbated in Saturday’s 68-45 home loss to Tennessee.

“After visiting with the trainer and him, they just really feel that he just needs to get away, rest and see if that can help him get healthy,” Prohm said.

Weiler-Babb’s knee has been less than 100 percent all season. He’s still averaged 11.6 points, 7.1 rebounds and 7.0 assists, but scored zero points in Saturday’s loss while playing in obvious pain.

The Cyclones (11-9, 2-6) face No. 15 West Virginia (16-5, 5-3) Wednesday at 6 p.m. (ESPNU) at Hilton Coliseum.

Prohm said he’ll return to the point guard by committee approach in Weiler-Babb’s absence.

“Lindell (Wigginton) and Donovan (Jackson), they’ll just share time at it,” Prohm said. “Who so-and-so starts at the point? I’m not concerned about that.”
