Florida defensive back V’Lique Carter has flipped his commitment from Iowa State to Pittsburgh. The 5-foot-10, 170-pound three-star announced his decision on Twitter Monday night.
Carter’s decommitment leaves Iowa State with 17 verbal commits in the 2018 recruiting cycle, 16 of them are expected to sign during the inaugural high school prospect early signing period later this week.
It also drops Iowa State’s defensive back commitment total to four, including three high school cornerbacks in Jaeveyon Morton, Dallas Taylor-Cortez and Anthony Johnson, Jr. The Cyclones also hold a commitment from Trinity Valley CC safety Greg Eisworth, who will enroll in Ames for the spring semester.
So, while keeping Carter in the fold would have been nice for Iowa State’s class, this is far from a major hit. The Cyclones still expect to add a very nice trio of high school defensive backs with Taylor-Cortez and Morton having very high-end potential at the next level.
There will also be room for Iowa State to add another defensive back in the class depending on how the rest of the class shakes out in the coming weeks. As always, stay tuned to Cyclone Fanatic for updates on Iowa State recruiting.
