RECRUITING: Cyclones land commitment from top 2019 in-state WR

Iowa State has landed a commitment from Bettendorf wide receiver Darien Porter, a source confirmed to Cyclone Fanatic Wednesday night.

Porter, a 6-foot-4, 165-pound prospect, is considered the No. 3 in-state player in the 2019 class by Rivals. He’s the state’s top receiver and is considered the No. 60 pass catcher in the class.

Iowa State was the first school to offer Porter in October and he has since taken a pair of unofficial visits to Ames, including the weekend of Dec. 10. He has also taken unofficial visits to Iowa, Minnesota and Notre Dame.

Porter’s commitment gives Iowa State its third wide receiver commitment in the past two days joining Missouri three-star Maurice Massey and Arizona three-star D’Shayne James. He is the Cyclones’ fourth 2019 commit overall.

Iowa State’s class for the 2019 recruiting cycle was rated as the No. 18 class nationally and the second-best class in the Big 12, according to 247Composite, before Porter’s commitment. It will likely move close to the top-15 when the rankings are recalculated.
