Iowa State’s Matt Campbell has been named the Big 12 Coach of the Year by the Associated Press. The new organization announced its annual end-of-year awards for the league on Friday.
Campbell, who led the Cyclones to a 7-5 record in his second season at the helm, was also named the conference’s coach of the year by the league’s coaches.
Iowa State’s David Montgomery, Joel Lanning and Kamari Cotton-Moya were also honored as members of the AP’s first-team All-Big 12. Montgomery and Cotton-Moya were first-team selections by the league’s coaches as well while Lanning was a second-team choice.
Allen Lazard, Jake Campos and Brian Peavy all earned second-team honors by the AP. Lazard was a first-team choice by the coaches while Peavy and Campos were both on second-team.
Oklahoma’s Baker Mayfield was named the league’s Offensive Player of the Year and the Sooners’ Ogbonnia Okoronkwo was named the Big 12’s top defensive player. West Virginia quarterback Will Grier was named the league’s top newcomer.
