The following is a press release courtesy of Iowa State athletics communications.

BIMINI, Bahamas – Iowa State (3-2, 0-0 Big 12) closed out the Junkanoo Jam with an 81-60 loss to a hot-shooting Central Michigan (4-1, 0-0 MAC) team in the Bahamas. Central Michigan shot 42.2 percent from the field in the game and 58.3 percent from deep, draining 14 3-pointers, to top the Cyclones.

The Cyclone effort was led by junior Bridget Carleton, who paced the Cyclones with 19 points. Emily Durr was the only other Cyclone in double figures, netting 12 points. Durr also added five rebounds and four assists. The duo were also named to the Junkanoo Jam All-Tournament team for their performances.

How It Happened

The Cyclones got out to a quick start, going 6-of-9 to start the game and jump out to a 13-4 lead after a putback by Kristin Scott, forcing a Central Michigan timeout. Coming out the timeout, the Chippewas starting clicking, jumping out to a nine-point lead of their own headed into the half, 42-33. CMU was aided by an 18-point first-half performance by Presley Hudson.

Central Michigan kept up the pressure in the third quarter, growing their lead to 12, 49-37, at the under-5 timeout. Iowa State’s struggles continued from the field, as Central Michigan’s hot shooting pushed them out to a 63-47 lead at the end of the third quarter. The 16-point deficit proved too much for the Cyclones to overcome.

Iowa State is now 4-2 all-time in the Junkanoo Jam in three appearances.
