Former Iowa State head coach Tim Floyd announces retirement

Former Iowa State head coach Tim Floyd announced his retirement from coaching following his UTEP team’s loss to Lamar in El Paso. Floyd went 81-49 in his four seasons at the helm of the Cyclones.

Floyd led Iowa State to three NCAA Tournaments in four seasons, including the 1997 Sweet Sixteen. He also led the Cyclones to the 1996 Big 8 tournament championship and recruited Marcus Fizer to Ames before he became one of the best players in school history.

Floyd left Ames after the 1997-98 season to lead the Chicago Bulls for four seasons. He returned to the college game in 2005 as the head coach at USC where he led the Trojans to three NCAA Tournament berths and a Sweet Sixteen in 2009.

He spent the final eight years of his coaching career leading the Minors to a 138-99 record. He finishes his coaching career with a record of 444-282.
