Few people are as good with numbers and know Iowa State athletics history as well my friend Chris Andringa. On Sunday afternoon, Chris compiled four different scenarios in which Iowa State could potentially reach the Big 12 Championship Game on Dec. 2.

Now it’s a long, long, long shot. Chris actually calculated the 32 different scenarios that could play out in next weekend’s Big 12 action. Four of them resulted in Iowa State taking on Oklahoma, while the other 28 advance TCU to take on the Sooners. Every other team has been eliminated.

Before we get to the scenarios, here is next week’s Big 12 slate:

FRIDAY

Baylor at TCU, 11 a.m. on FS1
Texas Tech at Texas, 7 p.m. on FOX

SATURDAY

Kansas at Oklahoma State, TBD
Iowa State at Kansas State, 2:30 p.m. on ESPN2
West Virginia at Oklahoma, 2:45 p.m. on ESPN

IMPORTANT NOTES:

— In any of the four scenarios, TCU has to lose and Iowa State has to win. In three of the four scenarios, Texas Tech has to defeat Texas. So we’ll know on Friday night if Iowa State is going to have a prayer to play in the Big 12 championship game.

— One one scenario of the four is by far the most likely because it has Oklahoma State beating Kansas in Stillwater. The Cowboys are sure to be at least a three to four touchdown favorite so this is Iowa State’s best bet: Baylor over TCU, Texas Tech over Texas and Oklahoma over West Virginia. If all of that happens, Iowa State would meet Oklahoma for the Big 12 title.

Clear as mud.

Regardless, it’s fun for the Cyclones to be in this conversation.
