Honestly the only thing that concerns me about Iowa State covering the spread in this one is the weather. I checked out this matchup over at CFBAnalytics.com and Kansas’ defense is astoundingly bad. This game reminds me of Akron. I have a feeling we’ll walk away after seeing Iowa State win by 24 and say, “Didn’t play that well” following an inevitable letdown following the largest upset in school history.

The Pick: Iowa State 38, Kansas 14

Kansas hasn’t won a Big 12 road game since it won in Ames over NINE years ago in 2008. The head coaches for that one: Gene Chizik and Mark Mangino. That is incredible. I believe that streak lasts at least another game, but this one is more competitive than most think.

The Cyclones are saying all the “right” things entering this year’s matchup with Kansas but flattery will happily get them nowhere near a close game. Another efficient offensive performance coupled with a now-routinely solid defensive effort allows ISU to run away and hide from the still-rebuilding Jayhawks. Side prediction: Kempt to Lazard x 2.

The Pick: Cyclones 45, KU 20

Try as they might, there’s no way to avoid a hangover from as big of a game as OU was, especially with how bad Kansas is. I expect this to be a little bit of a sluggish start, but ISU is so far above Kansas in talent and ability to execute that after a tight first quarter they push out to a big lead and Zeb Noland gets some snaps to close the game.

The Pick: Iowa State 42, Kansas 14

The train keeps rolling for Iowa State in this one. Poor weather and sloppy field conditions will likely keep either team from scoring too much, but this should be a game the Cyclones control throughout. Hopefully we lean on David Montgomery a lot en route to 4-2.
The Pick: Iowa State 31, Kansas 10

Rain or not, this game should not be over thought by the fan or the team. Kansas can move the ball, but they are a turnover machine, and while their defense has some talented individuals they are a mess as a whole. ISU shows continued defensive discipline and exploits a vulnerable rush defense to the tune of more than 200 yards on the ground. Iowa State can counter their tendencies on offense and defense and make Kansas look silly, if they are willing or need to do so. I am going with the line and another confidence building win heading in to a grudge match (for Tech) and toss up game in Lubbock.

The Pick: Iowa State 42, Kansas 20

I think Iowa State found something last week in a quick strike offense led by Kyle Kempt. Will that translate to this week? Only time will tell. I expect a heavy dose of David Montgomery and Iowa State’s running game. The Cyclone defense flexes its muscles and leads the way to a win.
The pick: Iowa State 38, Kansas 17
