RECRUITING: Iowa State women hosting handful of key prospects this weekend

This will be a huge weekend for the Iowa State football program, but it will be almost as big for the Iowa State women’s basketball program. Bill Fennelly and his staff will host a handful of key prospects, including a pair of commits.

Here are the prospects Cyclone Fanatic has confirmed will be on campus this weekend.

Ashley Joens, Guard, Iowa City, Iowa

Joens, an Iowa State commit in the 2018 class, is a five-star prospect rated as the No. 19 player in the class and No. 7 guard by ESPN. The Iowa City High product chose the Cyclones over offers from Indiana, Minnesota, Creighton, Illinois and DePaul.

Aubrey Joens, Guard, Iowa City, Iowa

The Cyclones already have one commitment from the Joens family and they’re looking to add another from this 2020 prospect. Iowa State offered the Iowa City High sophomore to be after an elite camp performance this summer. She averaged 12.1 points and 4.8 rebounds while starting all 24 games for Iowa City High last season as a freshman.

Caitlin Clark, Point Guard, West Des Moines, Iowa

Clark could be the big fish of this weekend’s visitors and it is easy to understand why. The Dowling Catholic product is rated as the No. 1 player in the 2020 class by ESPN and won a gold medal with the USA U16 Team this summer. The 5-foot-11 floor general averaged 15.3 points and dished 113 assists for the Maroons during her freshman campaign.

Maggie McGraw, Guard, Indianola, Iowa

The other Iowa State commit in the group made her pledge to Fennelly’s program official in March of her freshman year. The 2019 prospect averaged 17.3 points and knocked down 49 3-pointers at a 44 percent clip during her sophomore season in 2016-17.

Hannah Stuelke, Guard, Cedar Rapids, Iowa

This 2022 prospect will attend Cedar Rapids, Washington, but has been impressive while playing in the All-Iowa Attack system through her middle school career.

Jared Stansbury

Jared a native of Clarinda, Iowa, started as the Cyclone Fanatic intern in August 2013, primarily working as a videographer until starting on the women’s basketball beat prior to the 2014-15 season. Upon earning his Bachelor’s degree in Journalism and Mass Communication from Iowa State in May 2016, Jared was hired as the site’s full-time staff writer, taking over as the primary day-to-day reporter on football and men’s basketball. He was elevated to the position of managing editor in January 2020. He is a regular contributor on 1460 KXNO in Des Moines and makes regular guest appearances on radio stations across the Midwest. Jared resides in Ankeny with his four-year-old puggle, Lolo.
