It has been three years since the last time Iowa State had a player selected in the NFL Draft, but it has been more than 10 times as long since the Cyclones last had a player selected in the first round.
Georges Amundson in 1973 is the last Cyclone to be taken in the first round of the draft. The All-American quarterback was taken with the 14th pick by the Houston Oilers.
Amundson posted 4,798 yards of total offense during his time with the Cyclones. He is the only player in program history with 2,000 yards rushing (2,130) and 2,000 yards passing (2,668) in his career.
He led the Cyclones to the Liberty Bowl in 1972 after rushing for a school-record 1,260 yards in 1971. Amundson went on to play three seasons in the NFL and remains the highest NFL draft pick in program history.
