2019 Nashville, Tenn. lineman Tymon Mitchell didn’t know what to expect when he made the trip up to Ames this weekend, but what he saw surprised him. The 6-foot-3-inch, 287-pound prospect is capable of playing both sides of the ball at the next level, but is listed on his 247 profile as a defensive tackle.
“I didn’t expect much to come out of the visit going into it,” Mitchell told Cyclone Fanatic on Sunday. “But, yeah, I had a great time.”
Mitchell said the biggest thing that stuck out to him was the way offensive line coach Tom Manning has been able to coach and develop offensive linemen during his career. Iowa State was the first school to offer Mitchell, but he’s seen his list grow to include offers from Louisville and Vanderbilt.
He’s also drawn interest from in-state power Tennessee.
“They told me what they liked about me most was for a young guy I had a real desire to make plays,” Mitchell said. “A lot of abilities that just seemed to come natural for me.”
Mitchell said entering the visit he was most interested in the other three schools showing him interest, but now the Cyclones have inserted themselves into that group.
“Well before the visit I would have to say I wasn’t really considering it,” Mitchell said. “But now it’s definitely on the list as one of my favorites.”
