Iowa State’s top spring recruiting target had a heck of a weekend.

Shakur Juiston, a 6-foot-7, 215-pound forward, led Hutchinson C.C. to a 84-58 stomping of Eastern Florida State to claim the 2017 D1 JUCO championship. The win marked Hutchinson’s first national championship in 23 years.

In 27 minutes, Juiston went 7-of-13 for 18 points, 13 rebounds and seven assists in the championship game victory. .

Juiston, who also has an offer from Kansas, ended the season with an average of 17.3 points, 12.1 rebounds and 3.9 assists per game.

It’s also worth noting that Juiston went head-to-head with another Iowa State target, Daryl Edwards in the semifinals. Edwards, a 6-foot-4, 185-pound guard out of Northwest Florida State College, ended the season averaging 13.6 points per game but knocking down 46.6 percent of his 3-point attempts along the way.

Juiston had 18 and 15 when the two went head to head while Edwards ended with 20 points and four rebounds.

Iowa State assistant coach William Small attended tournament games early last week. Iowa State currently has four open scholarships to hand out this spring.
