MONDAY MUSINGS: Big Monday is here, football recruiting & more

Chris Williams: It’s a tricky game to pick because Kansas hasn’t exactly been blowing past its Big 12 competition over the last few weeks. The Jayhawks have really struggled to put teams away, especially on the road. Then there is Iowa State, who is consistently inconsistent. This Iowa State team has yet to beat a really good team this season, which scares me. There’s the Hilton factor though and while the Cyclones were anything but impressive on Saturday in Fort Worth, I don’t hate this matchup vs. KU. I will reluctantly take Iowa State here as Kansas is due for a loss and also because I think TCU is probably better than any of us want to give them credit for. The pick: Iowa State 75, Kansas 73

Jared Stansbury: Last week I was pretty confident this would be an Iowa State win but now that game day is here, I’m not so sure. I do think the Cyclones will matchup well in the backcourt but Saturday’s loss to TCU further proved ISU’s deficiencies up front. I just have a bad feeling this could turn into big games for Josh Jackson and Landen Lucas. If the Cyclones can hold their own in the paint, they’re going to have a good chance to win. Based on Saturday’s performance, that could be a big if. The pick: Kansas 78, Iowa State 72
