Iowa State senior point guard Monte Morris is officially the program’s all-time leader in assists. The 6-foot-3 Flint, Mich. native dished out his 666th career dime to Matt Thomas in the second half of Saturday’s game against Vanderbilt.
He passed Cyclone great Jeff Hornacek for the record. Former Iowa State All-American Georges Niang scored off of 135 of Morris’ assists, which is the most of any teammate.
His 666 assists put him fourth all-time in Big 12 history behind Aaron Miles (Kansas, 01-05), Doug Gottlieb (Oklayoma State, 98-00) and Kirk Hinrich (Kansas, 99-03).
Morris and Hornacek are the only players in program history to record more than 1,000 points, 600 assists and 200 steals.
