It’s a crazy and small world out there.

On Sunday, former Iowa State offensive coordinator Tom Herman was hired as the next head coach at Texas replacing Charlie Strong, who struggled greatly in Austin for three long seasons.

Herman, who staffed former Iowa State assistants Kenneth Pope (running backs), Yancy McKnight (strength and conditioning), Roosevelt Maggitt (former Iowa State defensive lineman, graduate assistant) among others at Houston, is now looking to hire his new staff at Texas.

All of the above will likely be included but what happens if his defensive coordinator, Todd Orlando (Houston’s current interim head coach for the bowl game) ends up landing the job permanently?

There is serious smoke around Paul Rhoads potentially becoming the next defensive coordinator at Texas. That’s according to multiple Texas news outlets at least, specifically the Austin American-Statesman, who mentioned Rhoads in an update today.

Personally, I still think it’s a long shot. I’m guessing that Houston will hire another head coach from somewhere else and that Orlando will ultimately end up with Herman in Austin. If that doesn’t happen though, Rhoads is the perfect DC for Herman. The dynamics of those two working together again are certainly fascinating though.

We’ll keep you guys update today as this will be a fun story to watch.
