Know the opposition: Three Horned Frogs

The Cy-Hawk game was forgettable. 

Up next for Iowa State is TCU on Saturday at 11 a.m. (FS1). 

Everyone knows about TCU quarterback Kenny “Trill” Hill. But what about the other talented players on the Horned Frogs’ roster? Who are they and how will they impact the outcome of Saturday’s game?

Here are three names to know.

Taj Williams- Wide receiver

Everyone knows TCU’s main pass catcher, KaVontae Turpin. While Turpin will receive a lot of attention from Iowa State, that should open the door for Taj Williams.

Williams is the Horned Frogs’ second leading receiver with 171 yards and two touchdowns on 12 receptions the season. That’s an average of 14.25 yards per catch.

The former Iowa Western Community College product is being touted as Hill’s go-to receiver. 

Sammy Douglas- Linebacker

The senior linebacker started last season as a starter for the Horned Frogs. But he ended the year on the sidelines due to an injury. However, Douglas is proving that the injury hasn’t slowed him down a bit.

In two games for TCU this season, Douglas has recorded 18 tackles. So expect Douglas to be all over the field for this Horned Frog defense.

During TCU’s weekly press conference on Tuesday, Douglas spoke about the possibility of the Cyclones using two quarterbacks and how the Horned Frog defense will approach it.

“We just go out there and compete with whoever is out there on the field with us,” Douglas said. “Try and get everybody down.”

Aaron Curry- Defensive line

TCU possesses one of the most talented defensive lines in the nation. They have anchor defensive ends Josh Carraway and James McFarland leading the way. But it is Curry who Iowa State’s offensive line should be focused on.

Curry isn’t an overly big defensive tackle, as he stands 6-foot-2 and weighs 270 pounds. But he does know how to get to the opposition’s quarterback.

Last year, Curry recorded four sacks but he has already 1.5 sacks for the Horned Frogs in 2016. Altogether, Curry has tallied 2.5 tackles for loss for 22 yards.

With how the Cyclones’ offensive line has looked so far this season, Curry could have a big day for TCU on Saturday.
