Although the score didn’t show it, Iowa State improved in its 41-20 loss to TCU last weekend.
Iowa State is now a -6.5 favorite over San Jose State for Saturday’s 11:00 a.m. kick (on FSN). However, despite the Spartans only having one win this year, this is still a talented team.
Here are three Spartans you need to know.
Kenny Potter, Quarterback
Potter is one of the best quarterbacks you have probably never heard of.
The 6-foot-2, 210 pound signal caller possesses a powerful build and is accurate with his throws. He has completed 60.6-percent of his passes for 532 yards, five touchdowns and two interceptions this season.

Potter also has the ability to escape the pocket, which is one thing the Iowa State defense will need to keep an eye on.
During San Jose State’s last game against Utah, Potter left the game in the third quarter with a bruised right leg. Despite the injury, Spartan head coach Ron Caragher stated Potter will be the man under center when San Jose State takes on Iowa State.
Justin Holmes, Wide Receiver
This season, Iowa State’s secondary has been beaten deep multiple times. The Cyclone defensive backs allowed receptions of 39, 35 and 25 yards last week against the Horned Frogs.
Holmes is no stranger to the deep ball.
Although Holmes is entering this game with just a mere six catches, he has made the most out of them. Through three games, Holmes has tallied 149 yards, which is good for an average of 24.8 yards per catch.
Iowa State’s secondary will need to keep a close eye on No. 9.
Frank Ginda, Linebacker
Matt Campbell has stated over the first three weeks of the season is that he wants to get running back Mike Warren going. Against San Jose State, Warren could possibly have his best game of the year as the Spartans currently rank No. 114 in rush defense.
This is where Ginda comes in.
Through three games, the sophomore has recorded 32 tackles, an average of 10.7 tackles per game. If San Jose State wants a remote chance to stop Iowa State’s rushing attack, Ginda will have to lead the way.
