RECRUITING: Iowa State makes McKinley Wright’s top five

A lot of the talk recently surrounding Iowa State basketball recruiting has been about under-the-radar recruits, but on Saturday a not so under-the-radar point guard included the Cyclones in his top five.

Champlin, Minn., guard McKinley Wright listed the Cyclones along with Dayton, Memphis, Minnesota and Xavier as the five schools he will decide from this fall. The 6-foot, 180-pound, three-star is rated as the No. 33 point guard in the country by 247.

Wright has been on an unofficial visit to Iowa State already this year. It is expected that he will make an official visit to Ames, and several of the other schools on his list, in the next few weeks before making a final decision during the fall.

Wright definitely looks the part of a college point guard and despite being only 6-foot, he’s very solidly built. He’s got a quick handle and a fast first step that allows him to quickly clear defenders.

He has a good looking shot and seems comfortable going either way into a pull-up jumper. Wright’s also adept at using both hands around the rim and has a very good right-handed floater that you can see a couple times in the video above.

This is a recruiting battle where Iowa State could really use a win. Donovan Jackson will be the only point guard left on the roster in 2017-18, and Wright is probably by far the best point guard prospect Iowa State is in with right now.
