RECRUITING: Cyclones hand out three new 2018 offers

The Iowa State coaches were hard out on the trail last week, and a few prospects in the class of 2018 have offers to show for it. Two players from Minnesota and one from Missouri received scholarship offers from the Cyclones.

Saint Louis, Mo., shooting guard Torrence Watson has been seeing his interest grow this summer since he was named All-State in Missouri as a sophomore. The four-star prospect is rated as the No. 14 shooting guard in the class, and the No. 83 overall by 247.

He’s a solid athlete in his 6-foot-3-inch, 175 pound, frame that can handle the ball, drive to the rim, finish well and also shoot a little bit. He could play the two or three at the college level and I wouldn’t be surprised if he still had some growing left to do.

He also has offers from Missouri, Kansas State, Illinois, Creighton and a handful of others.

Three-star Minnesota power forward Race Thompson adds Iowa State to a list of offers that includes Minnesota, North Dakota and Northern Iowa. He’s rated as the No. 27 power forward and No. 105 overall prospect in the class by 247.

The 6-foot-8-inch, 200 pound, prospect wouldn’t be described as an explosive athlete but he shows a clear understanding of the game and a high basketball IQ on film. He’s got long arms that make him a very capable shot blocker and he’s skilled enough to step out and knock down a shot from deep.

Power forward Jarvis Thomas picked up an Iowa State offer to go along with offers from Wisconsin-Green Bay and Oregon State. He’s also received interest from Iowa, Minnesota and Wisconsin.

The Tartan High product has very long arms in his 6-foot-6-inch, 225 pound, frame. He’s an electric athlete capable of finishing high above the rim but the rest of his offensive game seems to be raw.

He definitely has the frame and tools to be a solid power forward at the next level but will likely have to expand his game before he can be a big-time impact player.
