KANSAS CITY —Monte Morris participated in Iowa State’s Wednesday morning shoot-around but will not practice this afternoon in preparation for Thursday night’s tussle (8 p.m. on ESPNU) with No. 6 Oklahoma at the Big 12 Tournament. Iowa State’s all-conference point guard suffered a shoulder injury in last Saturday’s loss at Kansas that he has been resting ever since.

“It’s feeling better than yesterday,” Morris said following the shoot-around. “There are still parts of it that are tender but I still have another 24 hours to rest it. I’ll be good for game time tomorrow. I made some shots. The shots that I missed still felt good. I’m just going to ice it and take care of it. When the lights come on, I feel like my adrenaline will kick in and I’ll be good.”

Morris ran drills at full speed but visibly rubbed his shooting shoulder throughout the process.

“He can impact the game and not score,” head coach Steve Prohm said. “He can get 12 assists and not shoot and we can still be really good. Obviously when he is playing at a high clip and scoring in that 18 to 22 range, we are really good. I don’t know that we’ve been beaten when he’s playing at that level but his game isn’t dictated on scoring so if he is beat up and can’t really look to score, we’ll put him in situations where he is a passer, but that’s in his DNA already.”

Prohm said that if for some reason Morris would be unable to finish the game, Georges Niang would run the point for the Cyclones. After Naz Mitrou-Long’s season was cut short due to injury, Iowa State has played the entire year without a backup point guard.

Morris played a combined 79 of 80 total minutes in Iowa State’s two games vs. Oklahoma earlier this season. He scored 20 and 12 points respectively.

Summing things up: He will play on Thursday vs. the Sooners, but No. 11 certainly won’t be at 100 percent.
