RANKINGS: Cyclones fall to No. 19, Sooners No. 1

AMES — The stage is officially set for the nation’s No. 1 team to visit Hilton Coliseum tonight as the Oklahoma Sooners took over the top spot in both major polls that were released Monday afternoon.

Iowa State fell to No. 19 in the AP Top 25 and No. 21 in the USA Today Coaches Poll.

Kansas dropped two spots in both polls to No. 3 while North Carolina moved up to No. 2. Villanova and Xavier rounded out the top five in the AP, but Maryland replaced the Musketeers in the No. 5 spot in the Coaches.

West Virginia moved into the top 10 in both polls for the first time this season at No. 6 in the AP and No. 7 in the Coaches. Iowa also moved into the top 10 at No. 9 in both polls.

Texas A&M jumped up to No. 10 in the AP and No. 8 in the Coaches giving the Cyclones five teams on their schedule in the top 10.

Baylor is the only other Big 12 team in the polls at No. 13 in the AP and No. 15 in the Coaches.

Oklahoma also starts the week No. 1 in the RPI rankings while Iowa State is No. 16. Kansas (No. 4), Texas A&M (No. 7) and Iowa (No. 8) are all in the RPI top 10.

Colorado (No. 24), Texas (No. 27), Baylor (No. 32), Texas Tech (No. 36) and Kansas State (No. 61) add five more teams in the RPI top 75 on Iowa State’s schedule.
