WBB: Duke routs the Cyclones in Cancun

CANCUN, Mexico – Iowa State’s women’s basketball team (2-2 overall, 0-0 Big 12) fell to No. 15 Duke (5-1, 0-0 ACC), 86-48, in the second game of the Cancun Challenge in Cancun, Mexico.

How it Happened…

Iowa State took a 9-4 lead early in the first quarter, but the Duke offense finally began to hit its stride and went on a 12-0 run to take a 16-9 lead as the Iowa State offense sputtered. The Blue Devils would charge out to as much as a 17-point lead in the first half and head to the locker room with a 39-24 lead. Bryanna Fernstrom led Iowa State with 10 points off 5-of-6 shooting. She also grabbed four rebounds and denied two shots.

Iowa State would not be able to regain momentum after a physical first half and third quarter. Duke would close the third quarter with an 18-point lead, 47-29. The Blue Devils would maintain a 20-point lead for much of the fourth quarter and go on to defeat the Cyclones 86-48. 

Iowa State struggled on the boards as the blue Devils outrebounded the Cyclones, 50-33. Iowa State also struggled from long range netting just two 3-pointers.

Cyclone Game Ball Goes to…

Bryanna Fernstrom. Fernstrom was a bright side for the Cyclones offense as the 6-5 center from Center City, Minn. tallied 15 points for her second-straight game in double-figures.

*Bryanna Fernstrom scored in double figures for the 12th time in her career.

*Iowa State is now 0-3 all-time against Duke.

*Iowa State has now hit a 3-pointer in 647-straight games.
