Hawks dominate ISU in second half to win Cy-Hawk Trophy

AMES — That pesky Cy-Hawk game. You just never know what you’re going to get.

The first half was weird. The second half wasn’t even a contest.

Iowa State entered the second 30 with a 17-10 lead and only mustered up 66 yards of total offense (on 31 plays) in that period to lose. For the fourth year in a row, the road team won the Cy-Hawk game – this time  theHawkeyesby a 31-17 final.

Meanwhile, the Hawkeyes dominated the line of scrimmage on the other side of the ball too. Iowa out-gained Iowa State 475 to 310 in the game.

The game was decided with just under two minutes to go when Sam Richardson was picked off by Desmond King. Iowa then chipped in a late Jordan Canzeri touchdown to finish the job.

The biggest stat of the game: Iowa ran for 260 yards compared to Iowa State’s 63.

Ouch.

Quenton Bundrage (11 yards) and Jauan Wesley (29 yards) caught Iowa State’s two touchdown passes (from Richardson) in the game. Allen Lazard led the way for the Cyclones with seven catches for 71 yards. Walk-on Trever Ryen led the way on the ground for the Cyclones with 23 yards.

Check out CycloneFanatic.com later this evening and on Sunday for more coverage of the game.
