UPDATE: Pollard will have heart surgery this week in Des Moines

Iowa State Director of Athletics Jamie Pollard will be transferred this afternoon to Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines for continuing care and treatment following a heart attack he suffered Monday afternoon.

Pollard was admitted and treated at Allen Hospital in Waterloo but the move to Methodist gets him closer to home. 

Pollard will have open heart surgery later in the week in Des Moines.

“It has been overwhelming to have received so many messages of support,” Pollard said. “Our family is so appreciative of the uplifting and encouraging thoughts and prayers.”

Iowa State issued a release on Tuesday morning stating that Director of Athletics, Jamie Pollard had been taken by ambulance to Allen Hospital in Waterloo on Monday afternoon after suffering a heart attack while watching his daughters compete in the Girls Varsity Invitational track meet on the UNI campus. 

According to the release, Pollard spent Monday night in the hospital and remains hospitalized today. 

Following Tuesday’s spring football practice, head coach Paul Rhoads spoke about Pollard’s condition (video above). 

Per the release, Iowa State President StevenvLeathvhas appointed Senior Associate Athletics Director David Harris the acting AD while Pollard recuperates.
