The one (and perhaps only) advantage to Iowa State not playing in the Sweet 16 this week is that more attention can be paid to the recruiting trail. Fred Hoiberg won’t be golfing anywhere this weekend either.

According to ZagsBlog.com, Hoiberg will be in New York watching prized 2015 recruit Cheick Diallo this Thursday. The report also notes that Pittsburgh, St. Johns and Kansas will be in town this week.

Iowa State has been heavily involved in Diallo’s recruitment for well over a year and the 6-foot-9 forward will make a decision this offseason. Diallo is a consensus top-10 recruit and is listed as a lottery pick for the 2016 NBA Draft according to most publications.

Diallo has taken visits to all four schools, including Kentucky, listed above.

Diallo averaged 17.6 points, 10.5 rebounds 2.5 blocks per game during his senior season at Our Savior New American.
